TEACHING
I have been actively involved as a professional, practicing and teaching artist for about 20 years in both the two and three dimensional visual medias. My interest and participation in the art process began very early in my life and I have pursued it in some form from that time. The proficiency that I have gained in my profession, the maturity and sensitivity that the accumulation of living experiences has brought, my interest in history, contemporary art, science, writing, and ecology, as well as mastery of the basic art fundamentals enhances and gives me focus and discipline for myself and the transference of this into my work. This is also the basis of my communication and instruction with students.
My experience teaching art has been with students from teen to senior years who have a range of achievement and ability from beginning to advanced levels. The classes that I have taught are painting; all media, representational and experimental, basic design, color theory, and drawing; basic, figure, and expressive as ongoing classes and as workshops. I have done critiques on an individual consultation basis and as part of a class in both individual and group situations. In my capacity as teacher, reviewer, juror, and/or critic, I have seen accomplished artists and students evolve personally and artistically, develop confidence for self expression, and realize the importance of art in their life.
I have written and published reviews of art exhibitions. As juror and curator, I support interaction with the participants in formal and informal dialogue, lecture, and/or consultation and believe this fosters an artistic growth experience in me and in the artist.
I have a passion for art in its creation and manifestation, encouraging and responding to this in others. The aesthetic of art; this sense of wonder articulated through creative expressive investigation and experimentation coupled with a mastery of the technical skills and a knowledge of the fundamentals of formal issues becomes a work of art that feeds both the artist, , the viewer, and the student.
